Here is what I took down from our Meeting at the Malthouse on 4 August 2006.

Membership and Incentives

• Incorporate and get a Charter. Incorporation details can be found here.

• Provide a discount card, valid for all brewers and bars in the network.

• Provide a free mixed six pack of craft beer to members upon signing up - is this OK in terms of licensing laws?

• Provide a checklist for motivated members - Luke called it the Nag List. It lists people to repeatedly bug or invite to events such as local journos, celebs, MPs, Tourism, etc.

• Support network for startup craft brewers?

• Be useful to Brewers, Bars, and individual consumers.

Naming

Most popular name suggested was Society Of Beer Advocates (SOBA). I'm using this as a working name, but all instances can be changed if required.

Other suggestions:

Summerians, Hopmasters, Anoraks Against Bad Beer.

Some were in favour of acronyms, some against. Everyone asked was opposed to the cliched use of "Kiwi" or "NZ" in any name.

Geoff Griggs has suggested a great tagline - "Beer for all the right reasons".
