Fees

Bus

We will have a bus doing a loop through Nelson and then out to the venue between 8:45-10:00am. The same bus will also be taking people back leaving at 5:30pm to do the same loop dropping the last people off up until 6:30pm. Here are the stops where you can be picked up and dropped off along the way with approximate times:

A.      Bishopdale – Cnr Tukuka St and Waimea Rd (Hales Corner) – 8:45am

B.      Nelson City – Millers Acre (i-Site) – 8:50am

C.      Tahunanui – Bel-Aire Tavern – 9:00am

D.      Stoke North – Cnr Main Rd Stoke and Louisson Ave – 9:10am

E.       Stoke South – McCashins Brewery – 9:20am

F.       Richmond – Cnr Salisbury Rd and D’Arcy St – 9:30am

G.     Hope – Cnr Appleby Highway and Gladstone Rd (Three Brothers Corner) – 9:40am

The bus will not be able to wait for people so please ensure you are 10-15 minutes early to your closest pickup point. When you get on, pay the bus driver the $15 bus fee – that will cover you for your return trip.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided whether you pay to enter the competition or pay to do tastings. The food platters will include: Brie and Salami with Garlic and Rosemary Crostini, Cocktail spring rolls with Thai dipping sauce, Wedges with sour cream. Anything extra ordered off their usual menu will be at your own cost.

Competition

We aim to get things going at 10:30am after a briefing on how the day will run. We will serve up the beers in order starting with Lagers and Pilsners. We will then move onto Ales and work through the subcategories up to the stronger Ales. From there we move onto darker beers and through to stronger ones towards the end. Once the tastings and marking is done and the marking sheets have all been handed in, we will commence the tallying up of the scores. The prize giving will be done after the tallying close to about 3:30-4:00pm.

Conditions of Entry

All entries must be submitted to [email protected]. The following details must be put into the email:

·         Your first and last name

·         Your telephone number

·         Number of beers you are entering

·         Name of each beer

·         Style of each beer

The standard fee for entry into the competition is on a per person basis and will be $10 (lunch provided). Late entries may incur an extra fee or may not be able to enter so please have your entries to us no later than Thursday 12thSeptember. If you choose to not enter but take part in tastings and spectate, there will be a fee of $5 (lunch provided).

Your payment for the event must be done before the day of the competition and should be made out to this bank account: 03-1354-0268834-016. If banking is not an option for you, you must make contact with us to organise another method of payment. Use your name as the particular and reference on the payment.

We recommend you to bring your entries to the event on the day. If you bring your entries on the day, you must arrive no later than 10:00am to ensure we can process your entry. Arriving late can result in your beer not being entered into the competition.

No more than three entries per person will be accepted.

You do not have to brew your beers especially for the competition i.e. you can bring a beer you brewed several months ago.

Entries must not come in 330ml bottles. You must bring your entries in 750ml or larger bottles.  We also urge that you supply us with at least 1.5L for each of your entries so that there is enough to go around.

Entrants are entitled to taste, mark/rate, and write notes about the entries. People who have not entered into the competition may taste the entries and mark/rate also.

You must not mark/rate your own entries. When marking/rating and writing notes for each entry, you must be objective and courteous. We urge you to mark/rate according to the style of the entry. You must make your best efforts to mark/rate all of the entries. Feel free to discuss the entries among the other entrants to help you with the marking/rating process.

Counting of scores at the end will focus specifically on a tally up of the markings/ratings given for each entry. The tallying will focus on acquiring an average score among the scores received from the marking/rating process by the entrants. The highest scoring average will receive first place, the second highest scoring average will receive second place, and the third highest scoring average will receive third place etc.

You must live in the Nelson area to be eligible for a prize as they are pick-up only on the day of the event and will not be shipped out of Nelson.

If you can’t make it to the event for some reason but have entries that need to be taken to the event, it is up to you to ensure those entries get to the event in order to avoid missing out.

On a social level, you must be friendly and courteous towards the other people at the event. You must keep your entries secret until fair time has passed after your entries have been tasted and marked/rated to avoid skewed marking/rating.

Please take your empty and non-empty bottles at the end of the competition as it can be hard to dispose of them or take them off the premises if they can’t dispose of them.

You must be 18 years of age or older to enter the competition and taste the entries.

Pace your drinking. We understand there may be plenty of entries but we do urge you to keep within your limits and give your attention to the competition. The organisers of the event will not be held responsible for but not limited to: lit farts, bad jokes, entries that aren’t beer, low scores, your health, etc.
